We love a good handbag, so when we heard about Jayson Atienza’s latest project with THE DOT, we just had to get our hands on the goods. Founded by Hong Kong-based designer Suki Tsui, THE DOT is a unique brand that has revolutionized the concept of “wearable art”.
‘In art, everything begins with a simple dot’ is the philosophy behind the brand that’s all about creating positive vibes and pieces that make a statement. Working exclusively with artists around the world to create bold and beautiful fashion accessories – from solid prints to abstract patterns and everything in between – there is a DOT piece that’s sure to fit your lifestyle, look and #mood. Having dipped his toes in fashion and design (see: Bucketfeet), Jayson gives us the low-down on his very own THE DOT + Atienza handbag launch, featuring his signature designs. Peep the photos of Jayson at work, as he live- demos at the Hong Kong flagship for fashionistas and design lovers alike.
Interview with Jayson Atienza:
So Jayson, tell us, what is THE DOT?
Jayson: Founded by Hong Kong-based designer, Suki Tsui, THE DOT is a unique brand that has revolutionised the concept of wearable art, radiating positive energy whenever worn either as a supporting or a statement piece.
THE DOT transforms one-of-a-kind illustrations and prints by undiscovered talent and humbled artists from across the globe into exclusive story-telling pieces, so that we can all become walking pieces of art. By merging an artist’s work onto fashion accessories, we become the bold eyes and the emanating voice so that we can tell the story of each valued artist we work with. Discoverable are a stunning array of seasonal collections paired with a tasteful palette of harmonious colours that’ll brighten up just about anybody’s day. Solid prints and abstract patterns range from loud and bold, to subtle and chic, dressed up or down – whatever tickles your fancy.
Really cool stuff. P.S. Congrats on the line! How was the turnout at the launch event?
Jayson: The launch event was great. About 20 members of the Hong Kong press attended from both traditional and digital media outlets, as well as fans of the DOT.
What styles and materials do the bags come in?
Jayson: The bags come in three colorways: black/white, blue/green mixed and salmon/green mixed. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes including a shopping tote, weekender duffel, satchel, mini cross body bags, clutches, pouches, card holders and wallets.
With all of these being one-of-a-kind, how much do these retail at?
Jayson: The bags are really well constructed, and range from $115 USD – $300 USD.
How long are the bags available until?
Jayson: The bags are now available exclusively at THE DOT Hong Kong retail locations, and will be released online with free shipping worldwide soon, continuing through this Fall 2016.
